BIOGRAPHY

Carlo Rovelli is a word-renowned theoretical physicist.

As well as his significant contributions to the physics of space and time, he has written two international bestsellers, translated into 41 languages:

In Seven Brief Lessons on Physics (2016), Rovelli explains Einstein's theory of general relativity, quantum mechanics, black holes, the complex architecture of the universe, elementary particles, gravity, and the nature of the mind - all in under eighty pages! It is a tour de force of clarity and ambition, helping the general reader engage with the transformative scientific discoveries of the last century, and understand what they mean for humanity.

In 2017, Rovelli published Reality Is Not What It Seems: the journey to quantum gravity, where he explores how our view of time, space and matter - reality itself - has evolved throughout the ages.

Carlo's most recent book is The Order Of Time (2018). Here, he explains that time is a much more complex concept than we usually think. It flows at different speeds in different places, the past and the future differ far less than we might believe, and the very notion of the present evaporates in the vast universe. He demonstrates that to understand ourselves we need to reflect on time; and to understand time we need to reflect on ourselves. The audiobook is read by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Carlo has worked in Italy and the US, and is currently directing the quantum gravity research group of the Centre de physique théorique in Marseille, France.
