Jeff Hammerbacher is a data science pioneer, currently serving as Assistant Professor at Hammer Lab, an investor at Techammer, and a board member at Ciox and Cytel.
He was one of the first employees of Facebook, joining the company from Wall Street in 2006 to build the data team and develop the technology they required to handle the unprecedented amount of data the firm was generating. He left Facebook in 2008 to found Cloudera, where he also served as Chief Scientist. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Harvard University.
Jeff’s work has been featured in the Economist, the New York Times and the Harvard Business Review, and he has been recognised as an MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35, Forbes Disruptor Under 30, and BusinessWeek Best Young Tech Entrepreneur.
Through Facebook and Cloudera his teams have created three of the most popular open source databases (Cassandra, Hive, and Impala). With Techammer, he has invested in over 100 startups, and through Hammer Lab he has published over 20 scientific papers, primarily in the field of cancer immunotherapy.
