John Hofmeister is one of the world's foremost experts on energy security and global energy markets.
He served as President of Shell Oil from 2005-2008, during which time he led an unprecedented outreach programme that involved meeting over 15,000 business, political and civic leaders to discuss how to achieve an affordable and sustainable energy future for all.
Upon retirement from Shell Oil Company in 2008, John founded and continues to lead the not-for-profit, US-wide membership association, Citizens for Affordable Energy. The firm promotes sound US energy security solutions for the nation, including a range of affordable energy supplies, efficiency improvements, essential infrastructure, sustainable environmental policies and public education on energy issues.
In 2010, John published Why We Hate The Oil Companies: Straight Talk From An Energy Insider to international acclaim.
Working at the top of the business world for 35 years, John has also held key leadership positions in General Electric, Nortel and AlliedSignal (now Honeywell International).
John serves as the Chairman of the National Urban League and is a member of the US Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee, and the Sodexo Business Advisory Board. He also serves on the boards of the Foreign Policy Association, Strategic Partners, LLC, the Gas Technology Institute and the Center for Houston's Future. Hofmeister is a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources. He also is a past Chairman and serves as a Director of the Greater Houston Partnership.
