Simon Wright is the Industry Editor for The Economist’s print edition, writing on cars, planes, ships, manufacturing and infrastructure.
Previously, he was the magazine’s Energy and Commodities Correspondent (2010-13), where he covered everything from the oil and gas industry to mining, shipping, steel and large infrastructure projects. In this role he travelled extensively across America to cover the US shale gas revolution. He also wrote on shale gas in Europe, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and exploration in the Arctic circle. He also conducted extensive research on the future of Big Oil.
Simon first joined The Economist in 1989 as a researcher. Since then his roles have included stints as the Letters Editor, “The world this week” Editor, and writing about business and finance for economist.com. He has also been deputy news editor for the magazine’s website.
As The Economist’s industry expert, Simon researches and reports on key trends in a variety of markets, from the impact of particular innovative technologies to the wider macroeconomic and political contexts in which these industries are embedded.
