Investing in China
Distressed asset recovery
Tim Clissold is a critically acclaimed financial writer and businessman with a deep interest in China and the Chinese market. Living and working in China for over twenty years has given Tim valuable insight into the Chinse economy. His failures and successes with investment in China is catalogued in his 2004 book Mr China, which was listed as one of The Economist’s books of the year.
Tim’s initial foray in China was a 400 million dollar capital fund, invested into twenty PRC joint ventures, which resulted in what is today the largest independent automotive parts manufacturer in China. He has worked for Goldman Sachs, recovering distressed assets in multiple provinces in China, and has recently founded a business that develops projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, funded with start-up capital from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Tim is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Braemar Energy Ventures, a venture capital fund which focuses on energy efficient technologies. He also heads a non-profit organisation that aims to introduce a Chinese Civilisation A-Level into the UK school curriculum.
Tim’s Private Equity Group was one of the first large scale investment operations created for the Chinese market after it opened itself up to foreign investment. With over twenty years of experience, encompassing huge successes and heavy losses, Tim’s talks offer an invaluably honest take on conducting business in China.
