BIOGRAPHY

Ben Aldridge is a resilience speaker and bestselling author who shows audiences how to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and how to stay mentally strong when things get hard.

His approach is simple and unusual. He builds mental strength by deliberately seeking out discomfort, on purpose, before life chooses it for us. The ancient philosophers had a word for this: askesis, the practice of choosing voluntary discomfort as training.

Drawing on this ancient concept, Ben gives audiences a practical method for staying steady under pressure, growing through change, and walking out braver than they walked in.

Ben’s journey into all of this began with panic attacks and debilitating anxiety. In search of a way through, he discovered the ancient Stoic and Cynic philosophers and started setting himself challenges inspired by their ideas. These were both serious and quirky: ice baths, marathons, triathlons, stunt driving, meditation and climbing mountains, then deliberately awkward public experiments like telling bad jokes to strangers or walking a pet banana in the spirit of Diogenes the Cynic. And much, much more.

The lesson underneath all of it: the fear of a thing is almost always bigger than the thing itself.

This method changed Ben’s life. It helped him work through his anxiety and build resilience and confidence. This then evolved into a career as a writer and speaker. His books, How to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable, How to Control the
Uncontrollable, Seriously Happy and the Get Out of Your Comfort Zone Cards, have featured on bestseller lists and been translated across eleven languages, with his latest title shortlisted for the Information Book Awards 2025. Today he shares the
same method on stages around the world.
