BIOGRAPHY

Sir Nigel Sheinwald is a former top British diplomat who now divides his time between international business roles, education, and supporting institutions involved in transatlantic and European affairs.

He is a regular commentator on international affairs, particularly Brexit, US and European foreign policy, and global political trends and their impact on business. He has a unique vantage point based on his direct experience at the top of government in London, Brussels and Washington.

Nigel served as British Ambassador to the United States (2007-12) and European Union (2000-2003) and as Foreign Policy and Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister in Downing Street (2003-7).

In nearly four decades in the Diplomatic Service he served in Moscow, and twice in Brussels and twice in Washington, and in a wide range of policy roles in London, including FCO Press Secretary.

He now serves on the boards of Royal Dutch Shell, Invesco and Raytheon UK; and is a senior adviser to Tanium (a US cyber security company) and the Universal Music Group.

He is Chairman of the UK-US Fulbright Education Commission and Visiting Professor and Council member at King’s College, London; and serves on the advisory boards of the Ditchley Foundation, Centre for European Reform and British American Business.

Nigel was the UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on international data sharing, forging new relationships between government and the tech companies, in 2014-5.
